Blackjack – also referred to as ‘twenty one’ and ‘pontoon’ – is a card game that nowadays is usually found in a casino with players trying their fortune on acquiring the elusive ‘twenty one’. It is widely believed that the game started in France amid the 17th century. However, as with many other gambling games the exact evolution of the game is a mystery.

Twenty-one was introduced to the United States following the French Revolution, but the game didn’t become popular in the betting houses until the house provided payouts as a bonus. This was the only way that appeared to get people betting on black jack. One variation on the reward pay out was for a player to acquire ‘21′ with the black jack card (worth ten points) and an ace (valued at 11 points). With the growing popularity of the game the bonus pay outs were phased out but the name of the game ‘blackjack’ remained.

Black jack is not simply about acquiring an outright ‘twenty-one’, but the main challenge is to defeat the dealer without going ‘bust’. The betting house clearly has a house edge over the gambling players over the long run, but with blackjack the player holds on to a bit of choice.

Since nineteen thirty one when the U.S. first legalized wagering, blackjack has grown into a quintessential betting house card game. Furthermore, it is the blending of both skill and math utilized in black jack that has made the game massively liked. Black jack gives an attractive adventure to any scientist, math guy or gambling player looking to examine the strategy of the game.
