Chemin de Fer ABC’s – Part 1
February 12th, 2010 by Miracle

The basic premise of the card game is to be dealt cards adding up to 21. Each gambler is handed 2 cards. When a player is given a nine or less and an Ace they’ve been given a soft hand. When the gambler receives no Ace cards it is known as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been dealt every player at the blackjack table, which includes the dealer, every black jack player is provided the chance to make 1 of 6 decisions:

Taking another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit me" the croupier will give him another card, if the adding of that card makes the total greater than 21 the player will have busted and be excluded from the game, if the card pushes the value of the hand to twenty-one the black jack player wins and if the total hasn’t yet reached twenty-one they are still in the game.

Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a blackjack player is happy with the hand they’ll hold. As soon as this has happened the croupier will disclose his/her hand and the blackjack player who has accumulated twenty one or the nearest to twenty one will come away with a win.

Doubling Down: A blackjack player may ask to double down which increases the bet by one hundred percent they have laid. Once you have taken this procedure you can only receive one more card. The specifics of doubling down are normally specified by the table or casino rules so before competing be sure you’re familiar with the casino established rules. If you are wagering at an online casino this is usually quite easy.

Stay tuned for part 2.
